A random walk to the mailbox sometime in 2011 is what started Indy Racing Images. It was not a credit card offer or a bundle of supermarket coupons that changed the course of history. Rather, it was a random brown box that upon opening revealed an older style Canon dslr camera. Naturally, as a huge racing fan chasing the local sprint car scene in Indiana, Eli Kaikko decided to head to Kokomo Speedway with that camera in hand and no idea how to use it. The first few times were very shaky and resulted in getting tossed out of the infield for not having the proper credential. A few years later, his confidence grew and his equipment got better and Indy Racing Images was officially launched in 2014. Gas City Speedway took in IRI as track photographer from 2018 through 2022. Since then Indy Racing Images has expanded into the premier motorsports photography service covering events in the Midwest for the United States Auto Club.
